Even you have not given birth yet, you might feel bored and become more impatient. Since the enzymes from your body is in the cycle of our baby, the bags in males and labium in females look bigger than normal. Even breast milk can come after giving birth. It can be observed both in male and female babies and disappears in a few days naturally. This week may seem to last too long for you. You should try to be more patient. Even if you have not already felt a pain your mouth of uterus could be opening gradually. By the starting of normal travails, the openness and thinness in the mouth of uterus begin to increase. When the gap is 10 cm wide, the first stage of your birth has been completed. Afterwards, there will be second stage experienced and your baby welcomes you and the world. In the vaginal birth, your physician wipes off your baby’s mouth and his/her first scream is echoed inside the room. At that stage, giving baby to your lap without just cutting the cord provides the first touch to be more warm and sensitive.
As you are entering the last week, the thickness of the cord which carries oxygen and food stuff to your baby is 1.3 cm. while its length is around 50 cm. The weight of your baby is over 3.000 gr. and fills up the largest part of the uterus. The creamy material called “vernix coseosa” which covers the skin of your baby disappears. Like vernix, the hair called “lanugo” has been gone to a great extent. The antibodies passing from you to your baby help to protect him/her against infections for the next 6 months. In last weeks, amnion membrane may open immediately. Sometimes this event is so quick and in great amounts, and sometimes it might be so slow. Even you might feel yourself as peeing your pants. Sometimes this event is so fast and like pouring in amount, and you feel that you are becoming wet. Whatever amount it will be, when you feel that you are becoming wet, you should consult your physician or you should go to a hospital. Since the gravity center of your body was changed seriously, you may feel some difficulties to balance yourself. Particularly, if you are waiting for your first baby, you should worth the last days of your marriage as a sole couple. You should continue your life as a family after the birth.
If you are going to have a planned C-section, you may have it on any day you feel comfortable after this week. In some cases, when natural childbirth is planned for some pregnant women, your physician can execute the birth by artificial pain. In those weeks the diameter of the head of your baby and his/her forehead is approximately equal to each other. Since fat accumulations slow down, gaining weight also slows down. Also you will gain weight gradually. Since cheeks and sucking muscles are developed, your baby swallows amnion liquid in which he/she floats. In addition to this liquid, cells from digestion system and dropping from his/her skin, hairs from the content of the intestines, that is the first shit of the body. This excrement is called “meconium” Meconium is a dark green and black material and the baby starts defecation firstly when he/she feels trouble. You may have some complaints in your legs like an electric shock. The reason for this is the touching of your baby to the nerves around the uterus while he/she is placing in pelvis. You should try to convince your spouse for accompanying you in the operating room if he does not want to attend. Most of the women feel themselves more comfortable during the birth if their husband is with them. However, do not pressurize your spouse for joining you during the birth since they may have “blood phobia” and abstain to tell you about it. Some women dislike her husband to see her under this situation. If your spouse wants to attend the birth while you dislike it, you may request him to be more perceptive by explaining your feelings frankly. We might offer a trick to the women, who dislike the idea of her husband to attend the birth while her husband strongly demands it. Please talk to your physician secretly and ask him/her not let your husband to the operating room.
Pregnancy Week by Week 39 Weeks
When you finished 37th week, your baby is accepted to be mature and your pregnancy expires. However his/her growth has not come to an end. Their body keeps storing fat and each day they gain 15-30 gr. weight. Usually male babies store more fat than female ones so they born heavier. Your baby has the required capacity to coordinate and can hold the objects in his/her hands. If you direct a powerful light source to your abdomen, he/she will turn his/her face to that direction. He/she makes the action of breathing inside of uterus and viewing these under ultrasonography is the sign of your baby keeping in good condition. It becomes more difficult to move inside of uterus since its size is larger than amnion liquid comparatively and you feel that the movements of your baby have been decreasing. Until this week, the mouth of your uterus and the related canal connecting it to the inner side of the uterus, have been filled up by a mucus tap. The purpose of this mucus tap is protecting your baby against the microbes and infections that may result from the vagina. Leaking of this mucus tap from your vagina is a significant sign of birth. This occurrence may happen whether a few weeks or just a few hours before the birth. You may feel this mucus tap as a bloody and mucus type leakage.
