Caesarean section (C-section) is a surgical procedure in which one or more incisions are made through a mother’s abdomen (laparotomy) and uterus (hysterotomy) to deliver one or more babies, or, rarely, to remove a dead fetus. In case of a situation which is hazardous for mother’s and baby’s health, or in a situation which normal birth becomes impossible, it is the way to give birth by C-section.
The operation of C-section is one of the oldest known types of operation. By the help of improving medical sciences and technology, operational techniques used for C-section have been improved over time. Since the operations are performed in sterilized places and under hygienic conditions, supplying blood in necessity, strong medicines for destroying microbial formations, modern surgical equipments, and by avoiding from general anesthesia, the hazards of C-section operation have been diminished and it becomes even safe as normal birth.
Under normal conditions, C-section operation lasts for approximately 45 minutes. Baby is extracted 10 minutes after the operation starts. In order to reach the baby, 8 layers are cut including the skin and then are sutured again. If we list the layers below:
• Skin
• Adipose Tissue (Fatty Tissue under the skin)
• Protective layer for muscles
• Muscle layer
• Abdominal Membrane
• Uterus Membrane
• Uterus Muscle
• Amnion Membrane
